Press release -

PERSIAN ARTIST FIROUZ FARMANFARMAIAN TO PRESENT NEW EXHIBITION FOR 1-54 AT THE THÉÂTRE ROYAL IN MARRAKECH ON FEB 21, 2020

Firouz FarmanFarmaian lives and works in Marrakech as well as in Marbella and is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary contemporary artist born 1973 in Iran. New York, Paris, London, Hamburg, Washington, San Francisco, Dubai and Tehran are just a few examples of places where his work has been exhibited and many of his exquisite art pieces are in the private collections of royalty and celebrities all over the world.

His new exhibition “Memorandum of the Unknown Path” will take place on February 21, 2020 at the Théâtre Royal in Marrakech and will be part of 1-54 Marrakech 2020's Public Programme.

The “Memorandum of the Unknown Path” installation entangles Moroccan and Persian tribal cultures in a Sufi-like dance of textures and symbols weaving fabrics sourced in the Atlas and in the Sahara. Crowning a caravan of international shows departing from Marrakech in 2017 with the “Nomadic Displacement” installation at the Musée de Marrakech, followed up by the highly successful 2018 NYC “Poetry of the Tribe “ solo exhibit in Tribeca and confirmed with the 2019 “Permanence of Trace” Pop-up in Mayfair, London, FarmanFarmaian here returns to Marrakech to create, produce and present his synthesis.

Created as a site-specific intervention in the main hall of architect Charles Boccara’s legendary Théâtre Royal de Marrakech as an official off-event of the 2020 1-54 Art Fair, Marrakech based Diasporic Persian artist Firouz FarmanFarmian explores here again the question of identity in the face of change.

History and memory are the main themes in the art of Firouz FarmanFarmaian, whose lifetime of living in exile in Paris, France, has profoundly influenced both his creative practice and individual character. "It is circumstance that ultimately shapes lives," says the artist, whose work seeks to actively engage in a dialogue with the past. As such, his compositions possess a vivacious and spontaneous energy, as well as a deeply symbolic quality, which speaks to a multiplicity of currents in politics, art and philosophy.

The exhibition is produced by We R The Nomads Agency with the support of the Magic of Persia Foundation.
